The police launched a massive search operation here on Monday night following the movement of a suspicious man wearing black clothes near the Shikar Massian village near the headquarters of the BSF.

According to information, a woman, living outside the village, noticed a man holding firing arms crossing the paddy fields near the headquarters of the BSF around 10.30 pm on Monday night. She informed the police.

After getting information, Batala SSP Daljinder Singh, along with a police team, started a search operation in the fields.

The SSP said after getting information, they sounded a red alert in the entire area and all the roads leading to Batala and Dera Baba Nanal were sealed.

“The police searched the entire fields with the help of hand-held thermal imagers. Even in the morning, a team, led by SP (investigation) Jagjeet Singh Sarova minutely searched the entire area, but found nothing. As the tension was escalating at the border, we can’t take any chance,” he added.

On Monday, BSF personnel in Gurdaspur sector had opened fire after spotting a suspicious movement along the international border (IB).

Last week, an extensive two-day search operation was carried out at Pathankot following inputs about suspicious movement of armed men in army fatigues.
