The body of a septuagenarian woman was recovered from the Sirhind Canal here on Sunday. Her identity is yet to be ascertained.
Sadar station house officer (SHO) Sikander Singh said the body was found floating by residents of the area and was fished out by the volunteers of Sahara Jan Sewa at about 10 am.
He said that prima facie it seems that woman was murdered by throwing her in to the canal as both her hands were tied with a rope behind her back while her mouth was covered with a hankie. Though there is not injury mark on the body.
He said that looking in to the condition of body it seems that not more than 24 hours have passed since she was thrown in to canal. Police were trying to recognize the body.
