Woman's father assaulted for objecting against eve-teasing

Amid the hue and cry across the country over crime against women, not only the victims, even their kin are falling prey to the offenders.
In such an incident, two-motorcycle borne youths allegedly assaulted a man with a brick after the latter tried to deter them from chasing his daughter in Dugri area on Monday.
However, the victim nabbed the accused with the help of area residents and handed them over to the Dugri police.
The accused have been identified as Gunpreet Singh of Upkar Nagar and Gagandeep Singh of Kapoor Market of Bindraban road. The accused are in their early 20s and college students.
A case has been registered under sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 345 (wrongful confinement), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and 34 (acts done by several persons in futherance of common intention) of the IPC against the accused.
The victim, Amarjit Singh (46) of Dugri, told the police that his 19-year-old daughter, a B Com student had been taking tuitions in Civil Lines area.
He alleged that while his daughter returned home, the two accused used to tease and stalk her for the past 15 days, following which she told him about it.
Amarjit said to deter the youths, he went to her tuitions. As her daughter left the tuitions premises on her scooter, the accused, who were lurking in the area, started following her and started passing derogatory remarks.
He alleged meanwhile, he intercepted the accused near Dugri police station and asked them to stop chasing his daughter, following which the accused hit him with a brick on his head. "Though I suffered injuries, I raised an alarm, which alerted the area residents, who helped me nab the accused. Later, they were handed over to Dugri police station," Amarjit added.
The victim was later taken to civil hospital.
According to inspector Satwinder Singh, SHO, Dugri police station, Gunpreet was a student of BTech, while Gagandeep worked with his father, Jaswinder Singh, in his sewing machine unit.
