The city police arrested a woman and her son on the charges of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl for begging and prostitution, here at Bhadso on Sunday.

As per the information given by the police, the girl was alone at her home on Sunday when the accused duo, dressed as women, entered her house, forcibly took her into a car and fled from the spot.
The girl, while being abducted, created noise, alerting her father, who with the help of former village sarpanch chased the car of the accused.

The girl's family managed to stop the accused duo at Ditupur village and handed them over to the police.

However, the victim and the accused have narrated different versions to the police during the preliminary investigation, with the accused boy claiming that he had kidnapped the girl to marry her.

The duo has been identified as Nimrat Preet Singh (22) and his mother Harbans Kaur, from Kansuha Khurd village. The girl had taken her matriculation exam and lives with her stepfather, the complainant in the case.

The duo has been booked under Sections 363A (kidnapping or maiming a minor for purposes of begging), 366A (procuration of minor girl), 365 (kidnapping or abducting with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person), 372 (selling minor for purposes of prostitution) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.

Rajwinder Singh, station house officer at Bhadso police station, said, "Both the accused have been remanded in custody and further investigation is going on."

The duo can also be booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act 2012, but the police first intend to seek legal advice, record the minor's statement and get her medical examination conducted.
