Two women constables of the Border Security Force (BSF) posted at the Dera Baba Nanak sector of the Indo-Pakistani border shot down a Pakistani intruder on Sunday.
The incident took place at around 1.25 pm. A Pakistani SIM card was recovered from the body.
The women constables are Reena Kaur and Aarti.
Giving details, BSF DIG PS Bains, said, "Both the women constables were posted at the border outpost, Dera Baba Nanak, when they spotted a man coming from across the border towards the Indian fence. As the intruder came closer, the constables challenged him, but he did not stop. When the intruder almost crossed the fence, he was shot down by the constables."
A search was carried out and a Pakistani SIM card was recovered, said Bains, adding that, "Earlier also, women constables have been involved in seizures, but it was the first time in our area that they have shot down an intruder."
This would send a positive message to the women force in the BSF, said the DIG.
He said, "I talked to the constables and they told me that they were committed to their duty. The constables said the intruder tried to intimidate them, but they did not let it affect them."
