Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology organised a workshop on HIV/AIDS prevention in collaboration with the state's AIDS Control Society here on Monday.
The objective was to sensitise the youth regarding the causes of the disease and to make the students aware about the preventive methods. Vice-chancellor of the university ML Ranga was the chief guest on the occasion.
Ranga said unsafe sexual practices were the main cause of the disease in India. He urged the NSS volunteers to create awareness about the prevention of the disease.
Ujita Kundu, deputy director, Haryana AIDS Control Society, gave a detailed presentation in the form of lecture and documentaries covering all the possible causes, preventive approaches and reducing stigma associated with AIDS patients. NSS coordinator Sandeep Rana highlighted that along with preventive measures positive thinking and health promoting lifestyles could be instrumental in preventing the infection.
A poster exhibition was also organised, depicting causes, available treatment options and preventive methods of the disease.
