YC workers visit villages ahead of MC polls

Taking a leaf out of the political book of Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi to woo voters ahead of municipal corporation (MC) polls, Youth Congress leaders and workers have started spending nights at villages in Ludhiana district during which they stay with unprivileged families and listen to their grievances.

Sources said that Rahul Gandhi had directed YC leaders in Punjab to adopt the method ahead of the MC polls in many districts.

Deepak Khandoor, Ludhiana district chief of the Youth Congress, said that party workers would visit different villages in the district to 'check' the living conditions of unprivileged people.

"The SAD-BJP government has not been able to take care of the genuine problems of the people of the state. They have ruined the poor in the state and are still doing the same," said Khandoor.
He said that the party wants to witness first-hand the condition of the poor and the unprivileged and this was the reason that they were visiting different villages.

"We spend a night at the home of one family in one village so that we could feel as to what they are going through. We were shocked to learn that no one was listening to the plight of the poor under the SAD-BJP government," said Khandoor.

He further said that the unprivileged in the villages were not getting benefits of centrally- sponsored schemes such as Indira Vikas Yojna and MNREGA.

The party workers would visit many other villages in the near future, he added.
