The year 2013 saw many projects seeing the light of day in Gurdaspur district.

These projects included new judicial courts complexes in Gurdaspur and Batala, a memorial built in Kahnuwan Chhamb in the memory of the martyrs of Chhota Ghallughara at a cost of Rs 14 crore, Rs 2.70 crore old-age home in Jiwanwal village and a community health centre at Purana Shalla.

However, the work on Rs 50 crore district administrative complex, the foundation stone of which was laid by deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, did not kick-start.

Buildings for the office of tehsil and patwarkhana were constructed at a cost of Rs 34 lakh besides the tehsil complex and of the sub divisional magistrate office were built in Dera Baba Nanak.

As many as 35 projects worth Rs 3.11 crore were completed under the rural water supply scheme.
Deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha said these water-supply projects would benefit a population of over 40,000 in the rural areas of the district.

He said clean-drinking water and sewerage facilities had also been provided in Dera Baba Nanak and Sri Hargobindpur in 2013.

Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal inaugurated a police station fitted with modern facilities in Aliwal.

Three league matches of the World Kabaddi-Cup Punjab-2013 were successfully hosted at the Government College sports stadium in Gurdaspur in December. The law and order situation in the district was largely peaceful in 2013.
