International Yoga Day remained a flop show in Panchkula with only a few hundred appearing to celebrate the day. The programme started late, at around 7 am, but was later stopped for a live telecast of PM Narendra Modi’s speech. People had to perform for about ten minutes in rain as well.
Even though arrangements had been made for about 2000 people and participation was mandatory for government employees, few turned up. The crowd comprised of employees, school children and some locals who came voluntarily.
In SAS Nagar too, unlike Chandigarh, Yoga Day was a low-key affair. The lone yoga camp was at Shivalik Public School, Phase 6.
About 700 NCC cadets and NSS volunteers, along with a few residents, participated in the camp. However, many schools and educational institutes held yoga sessions on their premises. In anticipation of rain, SAS Nagar administration had cancelled the yoga camps at Nature’s Park and Hockey Stadium.
Apart from this, Government College Phase 6 celebrated the second Yoga Day in its multi-purpose auditorium. Principal Shubhpreet Kaur, college staff and more than 200 college students performed different yoga asanas.
Speaking on the occasion college, Shubhpreet urged everyone to adopt yoga as a part of their daily life style.
