The Municipal Corporation (MC) may soon send you a single bill for water as well as electricity. Officials hope the step would help streamline the collection process and also make the payment process easier for the consumer.

Sources said that talks were on with the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) management in this regard.

"The bills would be collected every two months at the PSPCL collection centres. The amount would be later transferred to the account of the civic body."

A source added that it was yet to be decide whether to implement the bill merger scheme in areas other than Patiala.

A major reason behind the scheme is the reported reluctance of people to clear their water bills, considering it to be unnecessary. The Patiala MC has to collect Rs 5crore from around 7,000 defaulters.

Patiala municipal commissioner Parminder Singh Gill said: "We face a lot of difficulty in collecting water supply bills. The decision is positive and will help us make the most of the resources and reduce our burden too."
