The youth from Ludhiana who was accused of abducting a Class-12 student on the pretext of marrying her, was arrested by the Mandi Gobindgarh police on Friday.

The police caught the duo at a bus stand in Badla Chowk. They were waiting to meet someone before fleeing the town, it was learnt.

The arrested youth was identified as Jaswinder Singh of Deep Nagar in Ludhiana and a case was registered against him.

Satish Kumar, the girl's father, in his complaint to the police said that the accused lived in the neighbourhood and used to follow his 17-year-old daughter.

So, the girl, who studied at the BBS School Ludhiana, was shifted to Sant Farid School for Class 12.
He also accused Jaswinder of misbehaving with his daughter.

Satish Kumar said in his complaint that when he learnt that his daughter had not returned from tuition class on August 5, he went to the factory in Upkar Nagar where the accused worked and found that Jaswinder had absconded; following which he informed the Mandi Gobindgarh police.

A police team led by ASI Darshan Lal nabbed the accused along with the girl. They were brought to the police station where the minor girl was handed over to family members.
