A 27-year-old man committed suicide at Bagrian village here on Monday. Initial investigation revealed that Baljinder Singh, a resident of Dinovaal village in Hoshiarpur, committed suicide after he lost a large sum of money to an immigration consultant who promised to send him to Australia.
Baljider was living in Bagrian village for the past several years. "In 2012, Jasvir Singh and Pramod Kumar asked Baljinder Singh for Rs 15 lakh to send him to Australia. After receiving the money, they started making excuses about his visa and in 2013, they sent him to Thailand in the name of Australia," said inspector Kuljit Singh.
"After that, they charged Rs 8 lakh more from the victim's cousin, Satnam Singh, and when they failed to get Baljinder a visa for Australia, they promised to return the money with interest. However, when they did not return the money, Baljinder hanged himself," added the inspector.
