The Punjab Youth Congress members will gherao Punjab Vidhan Sabha assembly on September 8.
Amarpreet Singh Lally, Punjab Youth Congress chief who was in the city on Wednesday said that they will hold a strike against the diversion of funds meant for the scholarship of scheduled caste/backward caste students by the government.
The 13th session of the 14th Vidhan Sabha will be held from September 8 to 14.“Though many a times we have asked for the details on the matter through Right to Information (RTI) but we have not received any clearance,” said Lally.
Condemning deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal, Lally said that though the former had announced inquiry by the Vigilance Bureau on the diversion of funds in March, no development on the inquiry has come forth.
Last year, embezzlement of around Rs 20 crore was unearthed by the government under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme 2014-15. “We are demanding proper inquiry in the scam so that the channels where the government has diverted the fund will be revealed,” said Lally.
The members further informed that they will burn effigies of the government outside district administration offices across Punjab from Thursday onwards.
Lally was accompanied by Abhay Singh, secretary Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee; Ashwan Bhalla, president of Youth Congress from Lok Sabha Jalandhar constituency and Kaku Ahluwalia, vice-president for Jalandhar Lok sabha seat
