Mystery shrouds the death of an 18-year-old youth who fell to his death from the 10th floor of an under-construction mall at Old Session Chowk here on Friday evening.
Police suspect the death to be the result of a mishap, though have not ruled out suicide. The deceased did not work for the building contractor and the police are yet to ascertain how he reached the 10th floor of the structure.
The deceased, identified as Raj Kumar (18) of Malakpur village, was the son of a nursery-owner based in Malakpur village near here.
Sub-inspector Ranjit Singh, Division 8 police station house officer (SHO), said that initially the police had received information that a construction worker fell down from the top of the mall. "He was seriously injured and was taken to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, where he breathed his last," Ranjit Singh said.
During the preliminary investigation, police came to know that the deceased was not working for the mall. "We identified him from the documents found from his pocket," he said.
He said the police would take appropriate action after recording the statement of his father, Shankar Mahto.
