Taking a step towards promotion of cultural and youth activities, Panjab University (PU) Syndicate on Sunday approved reservation of one additional seat per course for students performing at the international, national or inter-university youth festivals.
The additional seat will be reserved in all the PU campus teaching courses, constituent colleges, regional centres and affiliated colleges, except the courses governed by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bar Council of India (BCI), Medical Council of India (MCI), Dental Council of India, etc.
The admissions will be based on merit and performance at the festivals. Meanwhile, the PU Syndicate approved the recommendations of the standing committee regarding semester system at the undergraduate level.
As per the approved proposals, the practical examinations of undergraduate classes will now be conducted during the final few days of second, fourth and sixth semester. The honours course examinations at undergraduate level would be conducted on the theory pattern.
The PU Syndicate also allowed the inter-university migration in the even semester, provided applicable conditions are fulfilled.
It has also been recommended that there should be uniformity of pass marks and percentage across all the undergraduate courses.
The board of studies and faculties will be requested to review the decision for pass percentage in case of BBA/BCA, BCom classes to maintain the uniformity of pass percentage at undergraduate level.
The candidate who got admission in the 1st semester in a college and after completing the first semester could not get the admission in second semester due to some circumstances shall be given admission in the 2nd semester next year on the condition that the candidate must have attended the classes/appeared in examinations in the college in 1st semester.
The rates, honorarium and rates of voters list for senate elections were also decided.
The revised schedule for election of ordinary Fellows by registered graduate constituency was also ratified.
