The police have arrested a 24-year-old youth for molesting a girl on a bus. The 19-year-old victim reported the matter to the police on Tuesday alleging that she had been molested while travelling in a bus from Fatehabad to Sirsa and also at Sirsa bus stand.
The police arrested the accused from Sirsa bus stand on the complaint of the girl and registered a case under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code against him. Investigations are on.
Bhudev Singh, sub-inspector at Sirsa bus stand police station, said accused Vinod Kumar, son of Ved Parkash, a resident of Chaharwala village in Sirsa district allegedly molested the girl, who also hails from same village, in a moving bus. He tried to hold her from behind. When the girl shouted at him, many people came to her rescue and beat up Vinod.
Singh said the police arrested the accused from the spot. The girl, in her complaint, said Vinod, a student of ITI College, Fatehabad, was harassing her from a long time.
Two month ago, Vinod molested her when she was returning from the college. At that time, the village panchayat looked into the matter and Vinod’s father apologised for his son’s act. After that her father arranged a room in Sirsa for her studies so that she does not have to travel from Sirsa to Fatehabad daily. But Vinod tracked her and molested her again on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, inspector Bhudev Singh has advised people to stay alert if they witness such crimes while travelling in public transport. He asked sexual harassment victims to call police immediately or inform the bus driver to report the matter to police.
