With Uttar Pradesh government forming an ‘Anti Romeo Squad’, Ludhiana rural (Jagraon) police have also initiated a drive against revelers in Jagraon who are found roaming around girls’ colleges and schools. The police make them to do sit-ups outside the college while letting them go without taking any legal action.

The police also make the youths hold their ears in apology and force them to make a promise that they will never tease girls in future.

Around ten youths were made to do sit-ups on Baba Nand Singh Ji Marg of Jagraon on Thursday.

Rachpal Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Jagraon said that SSP has formed a special team called ‘Anti Gunda Staff’ to tackle eve teasing outside colleges and schools.

Headed by sub-inspector Jaswinder Singh, the team patrols outside the schools, colleges and other public places including bus stand, markets and roundabouts in Jagraon. On seeing two or more youths assembled at a public place, the team asks them to produce their identity card and question them about the reason of their standing there.

Jaswinder Singh said that they have also circulated the contact numbers of cops among the girls so that they can contact the policemen if such men harass them.

On asking why police don’t take any legal action against such persons, the sub-inspector said that police will only register a case on receiving complaint from girls.
