The three-day zonal youth festival of educational colleges affiliated to Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) was inaugurated in Dashmesh Auditorium on the campus on Thursday.
More than 400 students-artistes from affiliated colleges of the university are participating in 24 items of music, theatre, dance, literary and fine arts. The festival will conclude on September 21.
PK Sehajpal, dean, students welfare; inaugurated the festival by lighting candles, while Jagjit Kaur, director, youth welfare, welcomed the chief guest and student-artistes. She read out the activities and achievements of the department and also honoured Sehajpal with a memento. Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, principal, Khalsa College of Education, Amritsar, and principals of other colleges were also present on the occasion.
Sehajpal said sports and cultural activities are an integral part of the student life. He said students should participate in these activities alongside their studies for overall development of their personality. He congratulated Jagjit Kaur for winning the overall championship trophy last year in the North Zone Youth Festival. He hoped that the university would win it again.
The competitions started with group shabad/bhajan, group song, folk song, geet/ghazal and fine arts.
On September 20, competitions in fancy dress, mimicry, skit, poetical symposium, elocution, debate, painting, cartoon, poster making and slogan writing will be held.
On the concluding day, competitions in geet, gidha, rangoli, quiz and phulkari making will be held.
