Six Jharkhand constituencies went to polls on Thursday.

No untoward incident in Khunti

Voting for the 16th Lok Sabha polls was conducted peacefully across the Khunti parliamentary constituency on Thursday. Figures from the office of the CEO stated there was a turnout of 61.04% till 4pm. Booths witnessed hectic activities during the first half of the day. However, as temperatures increased in the afternoon, the number of voters gradually thinned. Nevertheless, polling picked up after 3pm as the weather became pleasant. Despite Khunti being a Maoist-hit area, no untoward incident was reported from anywhere else.

Jamshedpur records highest turnout

The Jamshedpur Lok Sabha constituency recorded 65% polling on Thursday, around 12% more than the 2011 Lok Sabha by-elections. People reached the booths early in the morning to cast their votes. Polling started at 7am and by 9am, the constituency recorded 16.5% turnout and by 11am, it reached 28%. Till 3 pm, the constituency recorded 58% polling. However, the polling was peaceful, barring minor scuffles at some of the booths.

Rural voters an excited lot in Singhbhum

Polling at 1,073 booths in Singhbhum constituency concluded peacefully with 62.73% turnout by 4pm. Voting trend at all the booths was high, with around 10% polling in the first two hours. Rural voters in Maoist-hit villages were excited about exercising their franchise. Around 65% polling was recorded at a number of booths in Digha and other villages. The district administration took action against the presiding officer of booth no 208, Bamia Soren, in Manoharpur, as he was reportedly motivating voters to cast vote for a particular candidate. Turnout in rural areas was high while in the urban areas it was low.

Voters defy Maoists, vote fearlessly in Giridih

Voters exercised their franchise fearlessly across the Giridih Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday. The polling percentage was higher than the previous Lok Sabha polls in the Maoist bastions of Giridih and Dumri assembly segments. About 50% turnout was recorded during the last elections, but this time it crossed the 60% mark by the end of the day. The Maoists triggered almost a dozen bombs in the remote locations of Pirtand block where 98 out of 345 polling stations were declared supersensitive. However, Giridih superintendent of police, Kranti Kumar Garhdeshi said polling concluded smoothly.

EVMs fail to work in Hazaribagh

Around 61.01% turnout was witnessed in Hazaribagh constituency on Thursday. The figure were provided by the returning officer-cum-deputy commissioner Sunil Kumar after polling came to an end in the evening. Three EVM machines failed to work before the mock poll practice while two became defunct just after polling kicked off. Voters were welcomed with roses by NSS volunteers deployed outside model polling booths. A bomb was recovered from Bishnugarh area of the constituency. However, polling concluded peacefully. Kumar said it was for the first time that over 50% turnout was registered.

Voters offered soft drinks, roses in Ranchi

Around 58.76% voters turned up to cast their votes in the state capital on Thursday. The polling booths across the constituency were flooded with voters since early morning. However, the crowd thinned after 12pm. The voters were offered soft drinks and roses at over 500 model booths. Polling in the urban areas was conducted peacefully with minor stray incidents, which were reported from some localities. Supporters of the BJP and the Congress reportedly clashed in Dhurwa. No injuries were reported.
