Anant Pratap Deo, who received Congress state president Sukhdeo Bhagat at the Ranchi airport at 2pm on Sunday, joined the BJP an hour later and took jabs at his erstwhile party.
“Congress has no future as its ideologies were unlikely to bring development in the country or the state”, Deo said, adding that he had been inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘good work’.

The Jharkhand Congress unit was caught off guard. “It wasn’t expected but we are happy that traitors are leaving us”, Bhagat said.
Deo is the second Congress legislator to join the BJP in less than a week. On October 28, the party’s sitting legislator from Gomia, Madhav Lal Singh, switched over to the saffron side.

More Congress leaders including a few who had contested the Lok Sabha elections are also in talks with the BJP and may join before the first phase of elections, sources said.
By now the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha-Prajatantrik has lost seven of its 11 legislators to the BJP, while Congress has lost two of its 13 MLAs to the Modi wave.
