A 60-year-old widow was killed and her 17-year-old son injured in West Singhbhum Roladih village when her nephew attacked them with a knife charging them of practicing witchcraft. The accused, carrying his aunt’s head, surrendered at the Manjhari police station on Saturday.

Police station officer in charge Ramashish Ram said, “Pator Birua beheaded his aunt Rai Kui Birua late night on Friday injuring his cousin Vikram Birua in the process. He fled with the head after the incident and surrendered at the police station on Saturday morning.”

The police recovered the headless body from the village after Birua’s confession and handed it over to the family members after post mortem.

Ram said the accused was sent to jail on Saturday evening.

The police said the father of the accused had not been keeping well so Birua killed his aunt suspecting her of practicing black magic on his father. Patar also attacked his cousin but he managed to escape with severe injuries in the stomach and hand, the police said adding Vikram has been admitted to hospital for treatment of his injuries.
