Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren won the trust vote in the assembly on Thursday, six days after being sworn-in as the head of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress - RJD alliance.
The JMM alliance won 43 votes in the 82-member house while the Opposition got 37 votes.
“I gave a list of 43 MLAs support to governor Syed Ahmed and now we have proved it,” said Soren.
During the debate on the motion in the special assembly session, former Chief Minister and BJP leader Arjun Munda said, “This alliance has been formed for the benefit of the Congress. There is no hope that this government will do anything for the development of the state.”
This is the first time the Congress is part of the government in the state.
It had extended outside support to the Madhu Koda government in 2006 and the Shibu Soren government in 2008.
Munda had led the BJP, JMM, AJSU and JD(U) alliance from September 11, 2010 until his resignation on January 8 this year after the JMM pulled out. President’s rule was clamped in the state from January 18.
