LS election: Rai assures workers that babus would not be the lucky ones

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Ravindar Rai on Thursday cleared the hue about apprehensiveness of old party workers over election tickets given to retired IPS and IAS officers in Jharkhand.

Rai said that none of the IPS and IAS officers, who have joined the party, have been assured Lok Sabha tickets and the party would never induct any retired officer on the condition of giving him a ticket to the 2014 elections.

He said that the retired civil servants in Jharkhand have voluntarily joined the party to support BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and not to win tickets to contest the elections.

"We will not induct anybody on the condition of giving him a ticket to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections," Rai said. However, the old party workers and leaders, who have been working with BJP for decades, still seem to be apprehensive about priority given to the new members (retired IAS and IPS) in the election. An experienced party worker, requesting anonymity, said that internal rifts had been observed in the state wing of the party over the same issue.

"We the experienced and loyal party workers will not be satisfied if any new member is given the Lok Sabha ticket," he said. This year, IPS Arun Oraon, former IAS Mukhtiyar Singh and former IPS BD Ram have joined the party.

Nevertheless, the decision of giving tickets for contesting the Lok Sabha elections would be taken by the central committee of the party. Rai said that only the central committee would independently decide whom to nominate in the state for elections.

Meanwhile, Rai took a dig at Congress Union minister Jairam Ramesh for failing to fulfil the assurances he had given in the past.

He said that Ramesh had assured recruitment of 14,000 school teachers by February 15 and had promised several other developmental works that could not be executed in the state. Rai accused the Congress leaders of messing up the recruitment process in the state and obstructing developmental works.
