Monsoon to hit Jharkhand today, Met predicts

Monsoon may hit Jharkhand on Wednesday. If the Meteorological office is to be believed, a change in weather is likely with expectations of moderate to heavy rainfall in the state.
Even as pre-monsoon cloud enveloped major parts of the state on Monday the afternoon, light showers brought respite from the heat wave conditions.
The state has been reeling under heat wave conditions for the last fortnight with the maximum temperature hovering around 40 to 46 degrees Celsius.
However, heat wave conditions also prevailed in some parts of the state on Monday.
“Cloudy weather coupled with light rain was observed in northern and north eastern parts of the state due to an effect of the cyclonic circulation over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar,” said Upendra Srivastava, forecasting officer of Ranchi Meteorological Centre. While Ranchi and Daltonganj’s maximum temperature touched a comfortable level at 36 and 38.4 degrees Celsius, Jamshedpur recorded a maximum temperature of 40.4 degrees Celsius.
A convective cloud, which was hovering over Odisha on Monday, may shift to Jharkhand on Tuesday and help in further advancement of monsoon.
“Monsoon is progressing actively and it is expected to hit Jharkhand in the next 48 hours. Weak current had restricted the speed of monsoon for the last 3 to 4 days,” said AK Sen, director of Patna Meteorological Centre.
However, A Wadud, a meteorological scientist at Birsa Agriculture University (BAU), said, “The current line of monsoon suggests that it would hit Jharkhand on June 19-20. However, the state may receive a good rainfall on June 18.”
