Muslims in Chakulia block of Ghatsila sub-division in East Singhbhum district have decided not to take out a Muharram procession this year keeping in mind the Dussehra festival.

Durga idols will be immersed on October 23 and Muharram will be observed on October 24.

Officer-in-charge of Chakulia police station Binode Paswan said, “This decision was spontaneous.” Muharram Committee president Md Fakuridin Ahamed and Asgar Khan of Masjid Committee in a joint statement said, “For the cause of a tension-free festival, we decided to forgo the procession. Namaz will be offered as usual.”

At Maubhandar, Muslims and Hindus decided that Durga idols’ immersion and Muharram processions would be taken out simultaneously.
