The Jharkhand police have arrested a sub-zonal commander and five hardcore members of the banned People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), which had recently gunned down AJSU-Party leader Tileshwar Sahu. The arrests were made on Sunday after three gunbattles with the criminals in Khunti and Ranchi districts. A heavy cache of arms and ammunition was
recovered from their possession.
The arrests were made following intense search operations after Sahu’s murder. But, the police are yet to establish the link between the murder and the arrested PLFI members. Inspector general of police (IG) Anurag Gupta said, “Security forces nabbed PLFI’s east zone sub-zonal commander Jitendat Patar Munda (Nishantji); while he was trying to escape during an encounter in a forest area of the district.” The police officer, who raided the hideout in Khunti with the team, said, “ Nishantji was chased and nabbed by us while he was trying to escape during the encounter.” The PLFI members fired shots at the raiding team to escape the arrest. Police recovered one country-made pistol, two rounds of .315 bullets and four mobile phones from his possession. Another operation was launched on Sunday evening in Jilingburu forest area after Naishantji’s tip off which resulted in the arrest of hardcore member Lalit Sahu of the outfit and recovered a laptop, a motorcycle, PLFI literature, 18 rounds of 9mm bullets, four rounds of 7.65mm bullet, 20 rounds of 12bore bullets, mobile phones and clothes. Simultaneously, Ranchi police launched an operation at Angara and Sonahatu police station areas and arrested four hardcore members of the outfit. One carbine, one country-made pistol, IEDs and five rounds of 9mm bullet.
