Incumbent chief minister (CM) Hemant Soren’s political advisor Himanshu Chowdhary, a TV journalist, a Bistupur police personnel and four Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) workers sustained injuries after a lift collapsed at Hotel Ramada around 11.35am here on Tuesday. This is the second close shave for the CM and his entourage in the last four days as previously his chopper had to make an emergency landing at Sonari airport on Saturday.
Out of the two lifts in the hotel, the ceiling of the one carrying Chowdhary, TV journalist Kaushal Kishore Singh, Bistupur OC Jitendra Kumar and four JMM workers tore down on Tuesday morning leaving all of them injured. Soren, who was coming down from his room on the 6th floor with Congress MLA Banna Gupta, miraculously escaped the mishap as he was in the other lift on the opposite side. All the injured were rushed to the Tata Main Hospital and were joined by deputy commissioner Amitabh Kaushal, senior superintendent of police AV Homkar and sub-divisional officer Prem Ranjan there. CM too went to the hospital before leaving for Odisha on a campaign tour.
Condition of two among the four injured JMM workers was said to be serious. Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) special officer Deepak Sahay has initiated an inquiry into the mishap. “We have asked for all relevant documents to ensure whether the hotel authority have complied with the security norm,” he said.
Three days back, the CM’s chopper was caught in a thunderstorm over Mayurbhanj in Odisha. And after two futile attempts by the pilot to make an emergency landing at Bangriposi, the chopper flew back and made an emergency landing at Sonari Airport.
