Teen in Jharkhand village abducted, gang raped

Police have launched a manhunt for six men who allegedly abducted a 13-year-old tribal girl and gang raped her on the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday in a village in Jharkhand’s Gumla district.

A 13-year-old tribal girl from Jharkhand’s Gumla district was allegedly abducted and gang raped by six village youths after she came out of her house to attend nature’s call on Saturday night, police said on Monday.

Both her parents are daily wage labourers who work in a brick kiln in Uttar Pradesh, are on their way back. She lives with her two younger brothers in their home in Gumla’s Lada village.

On Saturday night, the six youths allegedly abducted her from her neighbourhood and took her four kilometers away from the village. They allegedly took turns to rape her the entire night and hit her with a stick when she resisted. On Sunday morning, they dumped her in an unconscious state outside her house, she has said in her complaint to the police.

The girl told the police on Monday that the youths had also threatened her to keep quiet or face dire consequences.

“We have lodged an FIR against six villagers and a manhunt is on to nab the accused,” said Ajay Thakur, officer in-charge of the Sisai Police Station.

The minor has accused Manoj Oraon, Vikas Oraon, Baleshwar Oraon, Bablu Oraon, Letia Oraon and Jeetram Oraon in her complaint to the police. The six men are absconding.

Police sources said that the petrified minor refused to go home fearing that her rapists would return. She remained under police protection on Monday as well.

The teenager has studied till class 6, but stopped going to school after her parents moved out of Jharkhand for work.

Crime against women is on the rise in Jharkhand. The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data reveals that crime against women has been increasing in Jharkhand. The NCRB had recorded altogether 5,972 cases of crime against women in 2014, which increased to 6,518 in 2015.
