At least two minor children were buried alive when the roof of an illegal mica mine caved in around 11 am on Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as Sanju Hembram (12), son of Bedo Hembram and Bisun Kisku (13), son of Chero Kisku. The injured have been identified as Tullu Soren (11), Manjhla Soren (12), sons of Shankar Soren and Budhni Manjhni (60).

All are said to be residents of Palmo village.

The site is located in the Palmo jungle area under Gawan police station, about 60 kilometres from the district headquarters at Giridih. Three others, including a 60–year–old woman, were, however, rescued by the villagers and rushed to Ranchi Institute of Medical Science (RIMS).

"The victims were rushed to RIMS by the villagers before we reached the spot. We sent the bodies of the deceased to Giridih Sadar hospital for post-mortem," Gawan Police Station in-charge Sumit Kumar said, adding, "A case has been filed with the Gawan police station  and we are looking into other aspects of the incident."
