A woman in Jamshedpur was stripped and filmed by her in-laws who threatened to circulate the video unless she brought a dowry of Rs 50 lakhs, police said on Wednesday, adding the alleged victim’s husband has been arrested.
According to the FIR lodged by the woman at Govindpur police station late on Tuesday, she was paraded naked in the house in the presence of several family members.
Within hours of the complaint, local police arrested her husband.
The complainant alleged in her FIR that her husband and thein-laws used to beat her often. "Despite stiff resistance, they made me march naked in the house and made a video," she said.
The in-laws threatened tocirculate the video on theInternet and through mobile phone MMS if she did not bring `50 lakh from her parents.
Govindpur police station in-charge Ashok Tiwari said,"Legal action would be taken against the in-laws after investigation."
Of late, Steel City Jamshedpur has witnessed a rise in crimes against women.
In the past one month, at least three incidents have occurred,including the murder of a woman in Kadma by motorcycle-borne chain snatchers and suicides by two women after sexual harassment.
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Jamshedpur is the most unsafe city for womenamong the four major cities in Jharkhand.
