A woman, set afire after being allegedly harassed for dowry in Ratu block of Ranchi, died at a hospital here on Monday.

The victim’s parents told the police their daughter Anjali Devi (25) married Amar Singh last year.

“The parents have alleged that she was being harassed for money and gold in dowry since her marriage with Singh. They have accused Singh and his parents of committing the crime,” said Kedar Nath Ram, the incharge of Ratu police station where the parents have lodged a case of dowry torture.

Devi was admitted to the hospital with burn injuries on Friday night, Ram said, adding that a manhunt has been launched for Singh.

According to police crime records, Jharkhand recorded 324 dowry deaths in 2013, 368 in 2014 and 168 in 2015 (till May).

On Saturday, a woman was allegedly stripped and beaten up by her in-laws for dowry in Ramgarh.
