Tamil superstar Thala Ajith’s cop-versus-psychopath crime drama, Vedalam, has bulldozed its way into the Rs 100 crore club. This despite the fact that the city has been battling with incessant rains for over a week now.
Though no official confirmation has come from the producer AM Rathnam, actor Rahul Dev who also stars in the film, tweeted about the film’s box office report on Thursday.
The film reinforces Ajith’s formidable clout on the Tamil Nadu box office: His last four films -- Yennai Arindhaal, Veeram, Arrambam and Billa II - made it big on the BO on a trot. The songs of the film, particularly Aluma Doluma with its rap by music composer Anirudh Ravichander and Bollywood’s Badshah, has been ruling the charts from much before the film’s Diwali release, pretty much setting the tone for its prospects on the BO.
Directed by Siruthai Siva, Vedalam has been made at an estimated budget of Rs 64 crores. Ajith is currently on bed-rest, recuperating from his twin surgeries, which he undertook immediately after the film’s release.
