Writer-director Vijayendra Prasad rose to fame with his son SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali franchise. He also earned his share of popularity via Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan. His upcoming release is Tamil superstar Vijay’s Mersal, slated to hit the screens this Diwali. Prasad’s biggest film of all his Kangana Ranaut starrer period drama Manikarnika, and he’s thrilled to be part of the project, which is being directed by Gabbar fame Krish.
Talking about the project, he told Deccan Chronicle, “I told the producers I’d write the story only if Krish directed the film. “The producers agreed as they liked Krish’s Gautamiputra Satakarni and gave the project to him. We didn’t go against history; and have done our research. The war episodes are going to be a highlight.” Asked about his son’s plan to make Mahabharata, he said that Rajamouli likes wars and he might make the film just for the wars.
Prasad’s latest Telugu directorial project Srivalli, a scientific thriller with a love triangle, has released in cinemas on Friday. Talking about the project, he said, “My good friend Ramesh and I studied in Vijayawada. After I settled in Hyderabad, I didn’t meet him for many years. In 2010, on Vinayaka Chaturthi, I thought of him and decided to see him and went to Vijayawada but he was no more. His mother showed me his diary that had an entry saying he thought of me on the same day as I did! How is it possible that both of us thought of each other on the same day? My film’s subject comes from this very thought.” The film stars Neha Hinge in the titular role.
