The cast of upcoming Punjabi film, Super Singh, actors Diljit Dosanjh and Sonam Bajwa, visited HT House on Friday to interact with the winners of the Stars in the City contest. When a fan told Diljit about how influential are the characters he plays on screen, the very honest singer-actor replied that he did these roles purely as work, and because they were offered to him. “I am not a role model for anyone. The same actor plays the role of a thief and a police officer on-screen. It’s not fair to look for role models in them. Being an entertainer, I want to play the role both of a villain and a hero. You can spread awareness through entertainment. I acted in Udta Punjab (2016) which was based on drugs even though I never drink. Also, just because I’ve never had alcohol does not mean I cannot sing about it.. Aap logon ko choose karna hai ki aapko kya seekhna hai,” said Diljit, adding, “Main paise bana raha hoon, apni life aur family ko safe kar raha hoon. If I get an opportunity to do something in life, I will do it. Right now,  I am a very selfish person.”

Of course, a conversation with Diljit is incomplete without the mention of American reality television star Kylie Jenner. Diljit has often spoken about how much he likes her. When a fan quizzed him about whether he would pick Kylie or actor Anushka Sharma, who he acted alongside in his film Phillauri, he said, “Aap Kylie ke baad koi bhi naam lete tab bhi answer Kylie hi hota.” Diljit and Sonam’s fans were in for a treat as the two sang the song Hawa Vich from the film, while Sonam also danced to Ho Gaya Talli with the audience.

Meanwhile, Sonam said that she signed the Anurag Singh directorial without even knowing its genre. “When I signed the film, I didn’t know it was a superhero film. I was so excited to work with Anurag and Diljit, so I didn’t ask anything else. I was happily surprised. I couldn’t imagine that they could make a superhero film in such a way. I remember asking Anurag about how he thought about the film. He said it had been in his mind for two- three years and finally he made it,” she said. The actor also said that she will always remember this film. “I have always looked forward to working with Anurag, he’s my favourite director. He’s also a very good human being. He is so passionate about cinema. I enjoy acting and when you work with such a team, you are happy throughout the shoot.”

A lot of stars such as Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha have appreciated the trailer of the movie. And Diljit says that he’s more than thankful. “Akshay sir ke hum sab fan hain. He has struggled so much in his life and has achieved so much despite not coming from a film background. He called me when he saw the trailer and said, ‘Achha trailer banaya hai,’ and congratulated me. Itna bade superstar agar regional film ko support kare, toh bahut badi baat hai,” he said.

Responding to a question about whether it was difficult to manage the superhero costume, the actor said, “There were two people who used to help me wear the suit and also get out of it.”
