A few decades ago,
talents were thriving in nearly every Bollywood department — be it filmmaking, acting or music.
However, for a while, names from the east were missing in Hindi films, but it looks like there has been a resurgence of sorts in recent years.
Following the success of Bengali directors like Anurag Basu, Pradeep Sarkar, Sujoy Ghosh and Shoojit Sircar, actors from the Bengali film industry are now making their presence felt in Hindi films.

In 2012, Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee was seen in Dibakar Banerjee’s Shanghai, which was his second Hindi film.
"Shanghai struck a chord with filmmakers in Mumbai and inspired them to look east. It’s great news for both the film industries. I’ve always maintained that Bengal is rich with talent — not just actors, but we also have brilliant technicians," says Prosenjit.

Shoojit, who has signed Jisshu Sengupta, for a lead role in his next film, Piku, says it’s his responsibility to give a chance to Bengali talents. "There are so many talented people in the Bengali film industry. Why shouldn’t we use them? This is our duty," he says.
The actors are also happy to hop on to the Bollywood bandwagon. Parambrata Chatterjee, whose role as a young cop in Kahaani was much appreciated, says, "It’s great that we are getting a chance to show our work on the national platform."
