Telugu film director Vasu Manthena, who has bought the rights of veteran author, late Khushwant Singh’s popular novel, The Company Of Women, wants to cast Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan in its film adaptation. He says that the project will be made under an international banner. “I have pitched the story to Irrfan. He has found it very interesting. But, at the moment, I cannot confirm whether he is doing the film,” says the director.

Apparently, Vasu is also in the process of roping in Bollywood actresses for the movie. However, he insists that it will not feature any mainstreamstar. “We may sign someone who has already done some off-beat movies,” he says.

Ask him what led him to make it an international film instead of a regular Bollywood or Telugu movie, and Vasu says, “I want to go for a larger audience. Though most parts of the film will show India, the subject will interest international audiences. The film will be something like Slumdog Millionaire (2009).”

It will be shot in Princeton (USA), Delhi and Haridwar (Uttarakhand) and it will go on the floors by February next year.
