The makers of Jai Lava Kusa were in for a shock on Monday when filmmaker Puri Jagannadh accused actor Jr. NTR of stealing his idea and using it as a character in the film. In Jai Lava Kusa, NTR plays a character called Jai, who speaks with a stutter. Puri has alleged that Jai’s character is based on a story he had pitched to NTR a few years ago. However, when we did some digging and spoke to sources close to NTR, we heard a different version of the story.

Apparently, Puri had pitched a story to NTR a few years ago. It was about a martial artist with a stutter. The same story was also pitched to Allu Arjun. For reasons unknown, both of them rejected the story and the project never took off. Puri feels his character has been tweaked and used in Jai Lava Kusa, and he’s fuming about it. Putting things into perspective, a source close to NTR said, “It’s true that Puri pitched a story about a character with a stutter. But it’s not the same character as Jai from Jai Lava Kusa. Except for the stammering trait, both the characters are very different. If we go by Puri’s claim, then we can’t have more than one film where the hero plays a cop.”

In the film, being directed by Bobby, NTR will be seen romancing Nivetha Thomas and Raashi Khanna, and this is the first time they’re pairing up with him. For one of his roles, NTR will be seen wearing prosthetics and his look is being handled by Hollywood make-up artist Vance Hartwell, popular for his work in films such as The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Shutter Island. The look of the antagonist has already gone viral.
