Since her return to the silver screen in 2016 with 36 Vayadhinile, Jyothika has signed quite a few interesting films such as Magalir Mattum and Naachiyar. Now, she joins Mani Ratnam.

After making a smashing comeback with 36 Vayadhinile last year, Jyotika’s next major release is women-centric drama Magalir Mattum. Originally slated to release in May, the film wasn’t able to hit the screens as the makers couldn’t find a suitable date. After months of delay and long wait, the film is finally slated to hit the screens on September 15. Jyothika has also wrapped up the shooting for Bala’s Naachiyar, in which she teams up with actor-composer GV Prakash Kumar. With two highly anticipated projects in her kitty, she has signed Mani Ratnam’s next project which is tipped to be a bilingual multi-starrer.

In a recent media interaction, Jyothika confirmed she will be part of Mani Ratnam’s next film. However, she was unwilling to spill more beans regarding the project, which is rumoured to also star Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil. More interested in doing content-driven films, Jyothika is looking at doing project where she wouldn’t mind doing even just three scenes but her character has to be strong. In her next week’s release Magalir Mattum, she plays a documentary filmmaker and she will be seen empowering the lives of few women.

Not long ago, Jyothika walked out of Vijay’s Mersal, and it left everybody in a state of shock. Explaining why she opted out of Mersal, she had told the media: “Suriya was not the reason I walked out of the project. Neither did my family stop me. One doesn’t walk out of a film at the last minute due to external pressure. I had a certain issue which was later settled amicably. But, I feel it shouldn’t be discussed. People who tweet various rumours on social media should think before leveling baseless allegations.”
