Jyothika to star in Tamil remake of Manju Warrier starrer Mohanlal

Malayalam film Mohanlal, tells the story of a crazy Mohanlal fan, played by Manju Warrier. In the Tamil version, Jyothika will play a hardcore Rajinikanth fan and the remake is said to be titled Rajini Selvi.

Jyothika is on a remake signing spree. After 36 Vayadhinile, a remake of Malayalam hit How Old Are You, she has signed on for the Tamil remake of Vidya Balan’s Tumhari Sulu.

Even before the Tumhari Sulu remake could go on the floors, news has emerged that she has signed yet another remake. Manju Warrier starrer Mohanlal, which hit the screens recently, is all set to be remade in Tamil and it is believed that Jyothika has been roped in for the Tamil version.

Mohanlal, directed by Sajid Yahiya, tells the story of a crazy Mohanlal fan, played by Manju. In the Tamil version, the protagonist will play a hardcore Rajinikanth fan and the remake is said to be titled Rajini Selvi. Suneesh Varanad, the writer of the film Mohanlal, shared the news of Tamil remake via his Facebook page. However, there’s no official announcement from Jyothika’s end regarding this project.

Meanwhile, the Tumhari Sulu Tamil remake, which has been titled Kaatrin Mozhi, will be directed by Radha Mohan. Currently busy wrapping up her portion in Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Jyothika is expected to commence work on Kaatrin Mozhi from the first week of June. On being signed on for Tumhari Sulu remake, Jyothika said in a statement: “I’m a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I love her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya film, and Tumhari Sulu, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. I congratulate the producers and director Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film. Tumhari Sulu is a hugely special film for me.”

Jyothika made a smashing comeback to the silver screen after a hiatus of eight years with 36 Vayadhinile.
