Nagarjuna’s son Akhil’s wedding to Shriya Bhupal called off?
The May 2017 wedding of Nagarjuna’s younger son, Akhil to Shriya Bhupal, granddaughter of industrialist GVK Reddy, has been called off. The two got engaged in a lavish ceremony in Hyderabad in December 2016 and planned to get married in Italy.
Just months away from what could have been one of Telugu film industry’s most-talked about weddings, reports suggest that Nagarjuna’s younger son Akhil Akkineni and Hyderabad-based fashion designer Shriya Bhupal, granddaughter of industrialist GVK Reddy, have called off their marriage. The two were planning to tie the knot in May 2017 in Italy.
Akhil and Shriya got engaged in a lavish ceremony in Hyderabad on December 9, 2016.
Quoting sources close to the family, a report in The New Indian Express suggests that many invitees who had already booked their tickets to Italy have been asked to cancel their travel plans.
“Messages went out last Saturday to guests to cancel their programme. No reason was given. Those who were about to book tickets were advised not to go ahead. Even the tickets booked by both families have been cancelled,” the sources were quoted as saying.
Though there is no official confirmation on the cancellation, sources have indicated that it was a ‘last minute decision’. One of the invitees told The New Indian Express on condition of anonymity that the news has come as a total surprise. “All was well until last week,” he said.
The destination wedding was expected to see the participation of nearly 700 guests. “A lot of preparations were made and everything was in place. Hotels and resorts were booked,” sources said.
Akhil and Shriya have been seeing each other for the past two years.
Akhil’s elder brother, Naga Chaitanya got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu, on January 29, 2017.
