The motion poster of Telugu film Rudramadevi is out. It unveils the look of Anushka Shetty's character. And from the look of it, it harks back to the classical era while still being modern. Here's how.

It is pretty much evident that Anushka Shetty's character adorns an anga vastram, the classical Indian attire that was the order of the day much before sari became India's de facto national dress. In keeping with her royal look, Rudramadevi is drenched in gold - from elaborate kamarbandh, arm bands to heavy necklaces and mang tikka… even the anklet is in gold!

The choice of fabric surprises though, as it looks more synthetic than what would be the norm then, in keeping with the times. The bodice cloth seems stitched. One would believe unstitched bodice cloth (The part of a woman's dress {excluding the sleeves} which is above the waist. A woman's sleeveless undergarment, often laced at the front.) would be more like it in 13th century India when Rudrama Devi ruled.

Incidentally, Anushka Shetty took on a traditional look for her film Arundhati as well, though she still wore a sari in it.

Anushka Shetty essays the role of a warrior queen of Kakatiya dynasty called Rudrama Devi who ruled most of the parts of modern day Telangana and Andhra Pradesh between 1259 and 1289 AD.

The film also stars Rana Daggubati and Allu Arjun in prominent roles.
