Recalling his first performance in Pune in 1997, actor-director Shreyas Talpade says he was anxious about the audiences’ verdict, as he had heard about the city’s no-nonsense attitude when it comes to theatre. “People had told me that Pune’s audience is the most difficult to please. I remember performing my initial plays and rehearsing in several theatres. I was nervous about their reaction. However, they loved me then and, fortunately, have continued loving me since,” says Shreyas, who recently turned director for the film, Poster Boys.
The actor says, “Pune is known for its rich cultural history and heritage. The audience here is smart and updated. In fact, the highest collection for my Marathi film Poshter Boyz was from Pune. It ran for 10 weeks in one of Kothrud’s theatres. Pune has always given me so much love.”
The Iqbal (2005) actor is currently working on the sequel to the Marathi film. “I am working with a writer on the Poshter Boyz sequel. We have figured out the first and second half of the film and are waiting for the climax to fall in place. It is going to be intriguing,” he says. Having ventured into direction, Shreyas says he has found a new level of respect for film-makers. “I am definitely no longer judgemental about filmmakers. Now, I know exactly what they go through while making a film. As a filmmaker, I will now be able to empathise with all my directors.”
