The buzz around Tamil film Vai Raja Vai has reached a crescendo, just in time for its May 1 release. For starters, its first trailer has already crossed 8 lakh views since it was launched in December last year on YouTube. With the film's much anticipated release date round the corner, here's our bit to pique your interest more: 5 lesser-known facts we bet you didn't know about the film.

Did you know that Gautham wasn't the first choice?

Atharvaa (L) was director Aishwarya R Dhanush's first choice before Gautham Karthik (R) stepped in.

Marking Aishwarya R Dhanush's second outing as a director, Vai Raja Vai looks every bit a stylish entertainer. With its much-hyped hero-driven plot, did you know that actor Gautham Karthik wasn't the first choice for the role? Sure, he was a Mani Ratnam find (he made his acting debut with Ratnam's Kadal in 2013) but Aishwarya was initially cosying up to the idea of casting actor Atharvaa. Looks like the vulnerability of a young actor seemed right for the plot that has a gambling-game-gone-wrong as its central theme. This is Taapsee Pannu's first negative role

Taapsee Pannu was last seen in Hindi film Baby where she played an undercover agent.

We saw her in a spunky avatar in Hindi film Baby where she plays an undercover agent with killer precision. For long, Taapsee's been playing the leading lady in a long list of South Indian films. Vai Raja Vai will change all that. For the first time, she's playing a negative character, albeit a glamorous one.Is this a copy of Hollywood movie 21?

Reports suggest Vai Raja Vai and Hollywood film 21 have similar plots.

Based loosely on the Hollywood heist drama film 21 (2008) about a gambling game that goes terribly wrong, Vai Raja Vai too is about a young man who has a gambling experience that teaches him harsh lessons, the toughest being the difference between having fun and being smart.Ilaiyaraaja croons a number in the trap-and-bass genre

Music meastro Ilaiyaraaja, known for blending western music sensibilities with South Indian musical traditions, has sung a rather young and happening song Move Your Body in the trap-and-bass genre. Listen to it here: Dhanush does a cameo

Dhanush plays a don called Kokki Kumar in Vai Raja Vai.

Finally chucking his lover boy image, Dhanush will be seen in totally different avatar as he does a cameo in Vai Raja Vai playing a don!
