Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would inaugurate the three-day India Economic Summit on Sunday, organised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Deliberations on skill development, economic inclusion and gender are expected to dominate the
discussions in the summit that would be attended by more than 800 leaders from industry, government, civil society and academia from more than 40 countries.

The theme for this year's Summit is “India’s Next Generation of Growth”.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, home minister P. Chidambaram, commerce and industry minister Anand Sharma, road transport and highways minister Kamal Nath, minister of state for commerce and industry Jyotiraditya Scindia and deputy chairperson of planning commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia are among those who would address the summit.

WEF will be celebrating 25 years of its engagement with India at the summit, jointly organised by the forum and CII.

“While the Indian economy registered a 6.7 growth, outshining developed economies and many emerging economies during the global crisis, the need for further reforms and a drive to be a globally competitive economy cannot be under-emphasised,” said Chandrajit Banerjee, director general, CII.
