Heavy rains continued to lash in most parts of Tamil Nadu, even as the Regional Meterological Centre in Chennai said the north-east monsoon, which brings bulk of rainfall to the state, has been "active over the state." Red Hills near here recorded a maximum of 15 cm of rain during the 24
hours ending at 8.30 am today, Met officials said adding that Cuddalore recorded 11 cm.

The observatory at Nungambakkam in the city recorded 10 cm rainfall during the period, officials said.

Met office said that rain or thundershowers were likely to occur at most places over coastal Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and at many places over interior Tamil Nadu for one more day.

Chennai and neighbourhoods were likely to be cloudy with few spells of shower or thundershowers, heavy at times, the Met office said.

Meanwhile, low-lying parts of the city remained inundated, with vehicles moving at snail's pace in many parts affected by water-logging.

A total of 13 rain-related deaths were reported from across the state since October 27, police said adding most of them were due to wall and roof collapses.
