Hyundai December sales up 23 pc

The country's second largest car maker, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), on Friday reported a 22.64 per cent growth in sales at 47,217 units for last year's December. HMIL had sold 38,502 units in the same month previous year, the company said in a statement. Domestic sales during
December jumped by 42.62 per cent to 22,252 units against 15,602 units during the same month a year ago, it said.

The company, the country's largest car exporter, witnessed a rise of 9.02 per cent in its overseas shipments at 24,965 units compared with 22,900 units in December, 2008. In its A2 segment (Santro, i10, i20 and Getz Prime) the company sold 44,129 units, while in the A3 segment (Accent and Verna) sales were at 3,068 units.

In the A5 segment (Sonata Transform) 20 units were sold during the month. For the entire 2009, HMIL's total sales grew by 14.41 per cent 5,59,880 units as against 4,89,343 units of 2008. Domestic sales jumped by 18.12 per cent at 2,89,863 units last year compared with 2,45,397 units a year ago.

Exports also rose by 10.69 per cent to 2,70,017 units from 2,43,946 units in 2008.
