Italian kids wear company Monnalisa Spa., is set to join the rapidly growing Indian kidswear market. Aiming to offer a pan India presence the company will from March 2010 begin to open its retail stores in India.

Earlier in 2006 the company made attempts to taste Indian waters. It entered a licensing agreement with an Indian partner but eventually called of the deal, as plans did not go well.

In this second attempt Monnalisa is now evaluating options to sign up with an Indian partner. The company will import its line of products from Italy and sell it in India. There will be five different lines of products for the target group, which includes children aged between 0-16 years. Monnalisa, whose main focus is girls wear, will also introduce clothes range meant for boys. Monnalisa claims its range though priced slightly on the higher side will be ‘affordable luxury’.

The branded kidswear market, estimated to be around Rs 5,000 crore, is flooded with players such as Catmoss, Liliput, Zapp and others.
