Prosper Utseya was a proud man after Zimbabwe clinched a thrilling two-run win against West Indies in the first ODI. “It was a very good team effort, and it was important that we keep the momentum going,” he said. “West Indies are still a good side. For us to beat them, we need to play
hard, remain focussed, pay attention to small things, and remain disciplined.”
Zimbabwe owed their win to fast-medium bowler Shingirai Masakadza, after Utseya entrusted the final over to the 23-year-old. Masakadza bowled Dwayne Smith for four, and had Sulieman Benn caught at deep mid-wicket next ball to swing the match their way.
Brief scores: Zim 254/5 (H Masakadza 41, V Sibanda 95) bt W Indies 252/9 (C Gayle 57).
