Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today thanked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for Union Cabinet's approval for presentation of a bill, envisaging the setting up of a global centre of learning in Nalanda, in the coming Parliament Session. "I thank the PM for his gesture. We will rescind
the earlier act adopted by the state assembly for setting up the University of Nalanda," Kumar told reporters.

Yesterday, Union Cabinet gave approval for presentation of the Nalanda University Bill 2010 in the Parliament Session likely to start on July 26. The university will be set up in the vicinity of the ancient Nalanda University at an estimated
cost of Rs 1005 crore.

Kumar said the state government had sent its suggestions sought by the Centre on the bill.

"We had expected the bill to come up in Parliament during the last session, but it is good that it is coming up in the monsoon session," he said.

Pegged as a symbol of global cooperation in education, the new University, proposed to be set up in Nalanda district, would have schools on Buddhist studies, philosophy and comparative literature, historical studies and ecology and
environmental studies.
