Bet you always thought that designer clothing would blast a crater-sized hole through your wallet. Would you be surprised to learn that you can actually buy a designer original for about as much as your Nike sneakers?

From Nikasha Tawdey’s chiffon layered blouses to Suhani Pittie’s jhumka
necklaces, the recently concluded Lakme Fashion Week threw up some interesting budget buys.

“Someone called me yesterday asking for a garment but complained that she’d heard I was very expensive,” says Tawadey. “But I price a whole sari at around Rs 8,000. It doesn’t get more reasonable that that.”

Neelanjan Ghosh, whose appliqué bags were snapped up even before his show finished, says, “Most people had already decided backstage which bags they were going to pick up. Then I was visited by a lot of personal buyers at the stores who made on-the-spot purchases because my prices are reasonable.”

Anita Dongre made sure that her resort wear show had a line sheet detailing cost along with product descriptions.

Even those sitting on the front row were surprised to see eclectic organza white shirts and silken jumpsuits for under Rs 5,000.
